Projects!
7/04/2009
I got the purple paint for my bedroom. It's Behr's Garden Butterfly. The guy said it wasn't often that the paint matched the customer's shirt. LOL It did, but I hadn't realized it until he mentioned it. I guess anyone can tell I like the color.I'm going to paint the ceiling the blue color that's on two of the walls now.

It's a deep blue, but after it's up, I will paint white to look like clouds -- the big puffy kind. In the end, there will be more white than blue. Then I have some glow-in-the-dark paint that I will paint stars with.
As you can see from the photo, the woodwork is currently black. So is the small wall the door is on. What can I say? It was my son's room. The other walls are a bright sunflower yellow/orange. I figure I need to do the ceiling first then the woodwork and then the walls. Then finally, we can move into that room.
Concurrently, I want to get out laundry room done. Right now it's the end of the garage. I'm going to put up a wall, paint the walls yellow, paint the floor (probably green or gray) and put in two big cupboards for my fabric. I have to drawer cabinets and length of fiberboard with which to make a counter to fold clothes on. I'm sure the cat will like it to watch outside, since it will go right under the window. It's not actually a very hard project, but it gets complex because it requires cleaning out the garage. An we have one of "those" garages. You know, the kind that has no room for a car, but it's full.
Once those projects are done, I should be able to get my sewing/craft area put in a more productive arrangement. Hopefully, by the the over sized TV cabinet will be gone and my son will also have taken away the organ. The room should be less crowded, then.
If all of that is done by the end of summer, I can start working on my quilt for my bedroom, and on my art quilts, in September.
Oh, and I hope to get some hiking in a few times this summer. I want to hike around Multnomah Falls, Silver Falls, and look for some new places. I won't be going through the lava tubes at Mt. St. Helen's though. My son liked that, but I'm not fond of caves. I think I'd have a panic attack in the ones you have to crawl through. I'm sure we'll go to the beach at least once. I hope more often. I wouldn't mind going to Crater Lake again, either. I know there are a lot of things around. It's just a matter of getting out and finding them. Iqbal has a book that lists a large nunber of then. Well, more than lists. It tells about all of them that the writer has visited.

Today I started on my projects. One is to paint the NE bedroom so my husband and I can move into it. I got a start with the first coat of paint on the ceiling. We also took down the cabinet (which I'll use in the laundry room) and I took down the standards for bookshelves. Then I puttied the holes for all of those things.Next was to steam off the wallpaper border in mom's bathroom. That took a little while, the the steam machine made it much easier than it would have been. I also ended up steaming off most of the paint on the cabinet doors. I intended to take off only the paper that had been glued on, but the steamer loosened the paint too. Now those doors won't need a major sanding. We're probably still going to repaint them, but they had a nice birch finish on them. Then I painted the board that will be her ceiling in there.

I did the second coat of the ceiling. I didn't have enough of the dark blue, and it looked awful, but I found a can of a somewhat lighter, truer blue and it covered the streaky, dark blue in one coat. This is the streaky first coat at the top. What looks white is actually the wet lighter blue. The reddish color is just a reflection of the camera light (I think).

Here's a shot in the dark (with flash) of the, now dry, lighter blue.

You can see that I still need to paint the walls, but I still have one more thing to do with the ceiling, before I get to the walls. I'll do the woodwork last, I think.
The other thing I did was paint the ceiling for mom's bathroom. This photo is upside down, because the ceiling is not up yet, so it's on the table. We are going to put it up in such a way that it can be taken down again if we have to get to the plumbing above it.
I had a monster headache this morning, so that's all I did all day since I started late. After dinner I came here to my computer and read my mail and the NY Times.

Here's the ceiling in daylight.

You can see how much lighter it is. The dark blue also has a lot of green in it. The light blue is also a glossier color, as you can tell by the reflection of the yellow-orange wall.I said I had one more thing to do, but actually I had two. This is the first:

I need to touch the clouds up a bit. They aren't exactly the way I want them. I tried to do it right away, but that made it worse. I need to wait until the paint is dry. This another view of the room as of today:

The ceiling looks the same as the wall because of reflection. The white space (actually a pale peach) is where the cabinet was. The "dots" are puttied holes. I tested the purple color in the corner and on the orange and white section. It will cover perfectly.I should be able to get the walls done tomorrow. I think it will take a couple of days or more to do the woodwork. I think it will need two coats. It also needs to be sanded a bit on the baseboards, first. The carpeting and paint stuck and it didn't even get painted all the way to the bottom because of the carpet.

I love that color! It's beautiful!
Your energy is amazing.
@TheCheshireGrins - Thank you. That's as close to my favorite shade of blue that I could find. The light purple is also one of my favorites.
@BLB - Energy?? What's that? If I waited for energy, I'd never get anything done. I just plod along. I'm exhausted at night. Fortunately that usually means I sleep well.
